Wetting corks with water?

I'm curious if someone here tried to wet a cork using water instead of tipping the bottle.

The reason I asked is that I've noticed some of the corks from my bottles are drying out and haven't been keeping a tight enough seal to my liking.

After reading some of the previous post, I can tell that some people do it, and some people don't due to the damage the alcohol can do to the cork.

Will using water expand the cork to give my bottles a good seal or would it just cause more trouble?
