Bots and Smurfs

I’m D2/3 and I’ve played a lot. I can’t think of one match where I thought I was playing a bot. I can only recall a handful of matches where I thought I was playing with an egregious smurf. What is the deal with all the complaints? Have I just been playing against a ton of bots and smurfs and somehow don’t even realize it? And if I don’t realize it how is it ruining the game? Trying to understand the issue better.
