Positive AuPair experience!!

I see so many scary and negative au pair experiences online but I have just had a beautiful year so I want to share. I started my au pair journey in January 2025 (Austria!!!). I was originally supposed to do it for one semester but I extended, and now it’s been over a year and I’m done in three days!

Before I decided to au pair I was feeling a little lost in my life. I wanted an experience where I could learn a language and where I could challenge myself and learn about who I am. This has given me exactly that!!! I’m now quite proficient in German and have had so many big and happy and lonely and sad and exciting and precious moments in this last year that have completely filled my soul. I know myself in such a special way now.

I found the kindest family that has made me feel at home and inspired me. My host parents have been so professional and respectful of me and my time, and also welcomed me so generously into their home. I’ve had three sweet host girls who are sunshine, and have been so patient with our language boundary despite being little kids. I have made so many happy memories here and found so much peace within myself. In addition, I’ve made some beautiful friendships, even had a boyfriend for part of the time, and gotten to know a beautiful city.

For anyone looking to be an au pair: don’t be afraid to try. I am so grateful I took this chance. It was everything I had hoped for. There are lovely people in every corner of the Earth and you might find many of them.
