Do Scots text like they speak?

Sorry, this is a stupid question, but do Scots use their slang like in messages? Like "eejit" instead of idiot, or "dinnae" instead of don't. Is that only a spoken thing? I know where I'm from (USA), we kind of do that with "y'all" instead of you all, and other words, so I'm assuming yes, but I don't know. Again, sorry, this is a silly question.
