Going from non fiction to fiction
So I got a publishing deal from Hatchette UK. (One of their imprints)
It’s a self help type book on neurodiversity.
I’m proud of it. I never pitched for it or anything I was offered it as the audience is quite niche.
Anyway. I’ve handed in the manuscript after writing it for 2 and a half years. Time went by very quickly. And the process was difficult. I have adhd so struggle with long term projects.
Now that it’s done I want to switch over to fiction. More social commentary fiction though. I have strong views and opinions about the world. One of my favourite tv shows ever is Mad Men because it encapsulates the politics of the time without being so on the nose. It’s often done subtly without removing the story from the main premise- daily life in an ad agency.
I’m struggling. I have different story ideas. I have an anthology idea. Then a one person play. I’m good at writing I guess essays, and personal reflective blogs and poems, that comes rather easy to me but turning that into a story? Sometimes it’s like I want to tel too many stories in one book. I’ll start writing for a bit. Then lose steam. Abandon it.
The long term goal, the long term vision is to get a long running tv series centred on the lives of black British women.
