VT vs JMU for Poli Sci/ Pre Law
Hello! I’m still waiting on UVA I got deferred so there is still a chance. I don’t think i’ll get in but if I did I would probably go there.
JMU
- Poli Sci major I haven’t looked into their minors or anything
- 11,647 per year in aid
- 4,900 work study
- cheaper overall total
- not the type of student body i want/as a virginian ive heard about how easy it is to get into drugs there (please correct me)
- didn’t love campus/hburg
- i think i could grow to love the school 100% tho
- checks all my requirements for what i wanted in college (football team, not tiny, spirit, resources for students, farther from home)
VT
- Poli Sci major, history minor and appalachia studies minor
- my whole family is from appalachia and i really love what this minor does with outreach + history of the region
- 9,400 per year in aid
- 5,000 work study
- roughly 4,000 per year more than jmu
- still not the student body i want but there’s not a school that specifically has that so it’s okay
- great great location, i’m from the county and hburg is a scary big city
- absolutely loved campus love love loved it
- is my top/dream school and only place i can see myself
I have an outside 15k scholarship per year, which makes jmu basically free and VT basically 5k. I don’t think either school has given out scholarships that you had to apply to through the scholarship portal/gsa. So there could be some there.
JMU is just cheaper overall and that’s very important especially as I want to go to law school. But I don’t want to go there… if JMU’s poli sci program stands out though I would give it more thought, but I already am because of the aid they gave.
