Please give me some advice

My significant other is confused about my ethnicity, I never lied or anything but I did tell him my passport country and he thought that my ethnicity is from there. He keeps insisting that this is my ethnicity even though I told him that my parents were minorities there. This hurt me because I feel like I am not what he wanted. He stopped me from doing a dna test. I wanted to do it for myself because my parents went back and forth about me being adopted and it confused me. Growing up, people would ask me if my mom was my aunt and they would be surprised when I told them she was my mom. Any thoughts? Should I even do a dna test?
