Recommendations for a visit to Sunshine Cost!

Hello! I am running the Sydney Marathon and am considering taking a trip to the Sunshine Coast after visiting Sydney. Possible dates Sept 1-7. A few things I am considering are the Australia Zoo, Noosa National Park, Paradise Caves. Any other recommendations? Surf lessons sound cool. I am from Canada (Manitoba) so I'd like to do/see things I can't do here. Also recommendations on the best areas to stay, Noosa Head vs Mooloolaba vs ??? Thanks in advance!
