Hi everyone,

We’re making this post to be completely transparent about a decision we’ve made to protect this community.

Over the past weeks, we’ve seen a pattern of abuse, bad-faith behaviour, and coordinated harassment spilling into this subreddit from a community that has repeatedly allowed brigading and rule-breaking activity. Many of the members who were removed from this subreddit for harassment or discrimination relocated there, and some have continued to target r/The50IN and its members.

Because of this, we have put a safety robot in place that issues automatic bans to users who actively participate in that subreddit. This is to protect our sub and our community from repeated disruption and harassment. Especially from people who can’t be bothered to read the rules and then blame others for it or take automod personally instead of waiting for an approval.

We Also Want To Address A Few Things Openly

1. We have seen photoshopped or fake moderation actions being circulated, which is misleading and unnecessary.

2. We have seen repeated attempts to justify abusive behaviour or downplay rule violations.

3. We attempted to resolve this situation privately and reasonably, including reaching out to the moderators of that subreddit, unfortunately, we received no response. Which is why we had to take this step.

After exhausting those options, we made the decision to prioritize the safety and stability of r/The50IN

Our responsibility is to maintain a space where members/the mod team feel safe, respected, and able to participate without harassment.

If you are caught by the bot accidentally, you are welcome to message the mod team politely and we will review cases individually. However, continued participation in brigading communities may result in permanent action.

Thank you to the members who continue to help us keep this space respectful and supportive. We always wanted this place to be one that has community and won’t cause you to be insulted just because your opinions differ.
