I feel really silly even typing this out. I (F40) accidentally left my stuffie at my situationship’s (M37) house. (We’ve known each other for ten years and have been on-and-off).

He left my stuffie in my mailbox (dirty, busy, heavily trafficked main road in a city of roughly 40,000). It’s actually made me really emotional. I’ve had this stuffie for 40 years, since the week I was born. She’s the single most important possession I own and brings me a huge sense of safety, comfort and stability.

I was not home and did not see his message. My reply was about 45min later. He knows where my spare key is.

When I got home and pulled her out of my mailbox (the relief!), I got back in my car and immediately started crying.

I am not going to say anything else to him about this, since we aren’t dating, I don’t feel like I have the “right” to have an emotional conversation.

A part of me wants to extend him grace and empathy, that he wanted to get my stuffie back to me so quickly and in a manner that was convenient for him. And a part of me (probably the inner child) is so super shaken and feels completely worthless that something so important to me could be treated so carelessly. Like a failure that I couldn’t protect something so valuable to me. And like this is a reflection on my worth.

He has since sent an apology message.
