Could artists like me make money?

I am now working with a digital media to create contemporary work. It's related mental health, abused women by men. I plan to use screen projectors, andcreate a few collages as well , but most would be projected. While I am passionate about this subject and people are interested in my work, I still do want to make some money as well. Is the only option Grant's for me? Or do these cont artists who exhibit work that does not sell make some income from gallery as well?
