[NFL] Drafting Mendoza at #1 would be a mistake — system matters more than talent.
We’ve seen this before.
Young QBs thrown into bad situations struggle. Then suddenly they look competent when they land in stable systems.
Look at:
• Daniel Jones — inconsistent in New York behind poor protection and coaching turnover.
• Baker Mayfield — labeled a bust, now productive in a structured offense.
• Sam Darnold — struggled in chaos, improved once surrounded by structure and weapons.
The Raiders don’t currently have:
• A proven offensive line
• A high-end WR core
• Long-term offensive stability
Why repeat the same mistake?
Trade the pick. Stack draft capital. Build the trenches. Then draft a QB into a stable system instead of throwing him into dysfunction.
Franchises ruin quarterbacks more than quarterbacks ruin franchises.
