New monitor for work from home and gaming.

Discussion

Hi all,

I've had my two monitors for about 8 and 10 years now and I believe it's time for something new. Completely out of the loop here and any help is much appreciated!

Setup:

  • Linux PC, EndeavourOS (if it makes any difference)
  • GPU: AMD 7900XTX

Usage:

  • Work from home 2 - 3 days a week, 8 - 10 hours a day.
  • Need to read and write a lot of documentation, code, mails, tickets. Basically I'm reading the whole day.
  • Content on the screen is rather static for longer periods of time.
  • My home office is a well lit (sun light) room, sometimes even too bright so I have to close the blinds and turn on a lamp.
  • Gaming a few evenings per week, 2 - 4 hours. On weekends this can be more.
  • Always gaming with lights on, eye strain in the dark is too much.
  • I'm playing various games but nothing on a high comp level. From fast paced shooters to cozy city builders, I play everything.

Requirements:

  • 4k - will be mostly playing on 2k but 4k where my GPU can handle it.
  • Refresh rate 120hz or more.
  • Budget is relatively high, willing to pay for quality but also happy with good midrange for a low(er) price. (Then I can get two of them, hehe)
  • Colors: I like black being black. However, oversaturation in colors is weird to look at, I prefer more natural tones.
  • I don't even know what exactly HDR, VRR, Pulsar etc. do. So if it has that, good, otherwise I probably can live without it.
  • Bezel: Smallest possible bezel there is, love monitors with small bezels!
  • Technology: OLED, Mini-LED, IPS; whatever you think could fit my usage the best.

Hope you can make sense out of these points. I swear I've tried to read up on monitors but I'd like to hear from people that may have a similar usage / requirements as I do.

Thanks in advance!
