Has anybody been a department lead while in college? Is the open availability possible?

In our store deli and hot foods are split up, I’ve worked both departments but now I just worry about cutting up cold deli meats, cheeses, and working the salad counter.

It’s a really great crew compared to working in hot foods, everybody is really good at their job and the only reason they’re not leads is due to factors like having kids, and limited availability. I’ve only been here a month but have caught on really fast since it’s way slower than my previous jobs.

Anyways, I’m going to take some classes in the summer and fall for my engineering degree. Im trying being a lead cause I have never done it before despite being offered in hot foods and my previous kitchen job. Im wondering if anybody else in college tried being a lead, it seems like it’s mostly in the early morning but they also want open availability on the days I’m not in college.
