Fiber to Home Phone line

What's everybody's take on the fiber phone line change over? I realized that while my house doesn't lose power often, that it has in the past exceeded the 8 hour battery backup offered and has also had some moments (very rare) that was longer than the extend backup option of 24 hours. The whole reason we have a landline is to be able to plug in an old school style phone to report an outage or emergency when the power has gone out. What are people's thoughts around the state where this change over is happening?
