Their Anti-Cheat system, or at least the Appeal system is awful
I bought this when it first came out. I have 146 hours on it. I absolutely love it. The Devs, their anti-cheat system and the appeal system is absolutely terrible.
I have now been banned twice. My latest for 90 days. Their system says its due to "Detected use of 3rd party tools to manipulate controls." There's a big problem with that: I don't use any. I don't even play PVP. I guess it would be possible to cheat in PVE and them want to curtail that, but I'm not cheating at all. In fact, I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER why I keep getting banned.
When I first got a 30 day ban I figured it would quickly be resolved, after all... I was completely innocent. They'd check their records, it would be a complete misunderstanding and it would get resolved. Instead I got a single point of contact who would take multiple days to respond to emails (and eventually stopped responding altogether). They asked me to provide a DXdiag, which I did, and a list of installed programs, which I did. She then pointed to two programs I had copies of on my machine. One was Mega Trainer, which was designed for single player training, but the only version I had was from 2013, when I used it to make playing Napoleon Total War easier because in the end game you have very large distances to cover with your armies, and it was easier to just "quick move" them using the trainer. Mega Trainer is also impossible to use with online games, because it won't work if the game is in any kind of multiplayer mode. It also only works with games it supports, which, back in 2013, didn't include Grey Zone, because it didn't exist. The other program was artmoney, which I used years ago to add money when I played Jagged Alliance: Back in Action, again, years ago. She said, even having them installed or even just the files on the computer, even if it wasn't running could cause the ban. She refused to consider rescinding or shortening the ban. She suggested deleting them, and serving my ban. I said "I'll wait the 28 days, and then probably get banned again because I have no idea what software you're talking about."
I asked for her to tell me when the violations supposedly occurred so I could try to figure out if something specific was triggering it. I asked her if having a gamepad plugged in could cause it. I asked her if she could give me a list of software which might have tripped the EAC. I pointed out that I've used other games with EAC over the years without incident. She refused to note the latter, and refused to answer the other questions.
Now I'm banned again, this time for NINETY DAYS, no answer on my new appeal of this ban yet.
Its a kafkaesque system. They won't tell you when the alleged "repeated" violations happened. Won't tell you what software might cause such violations. Won't say anything. They take days to respond, and then simply refuse to do anything. Its horrible customer service. Its a horrible experience. Great game. They could fix the first two things, I'll let you all know if they do.
