Manchester United took another historic step in the Women’s Champions League as they trashed Atletico Madrid 5-0 on aggregate to reach the quarterfinals of the competition for the very first time.

Julia Zigiotti opened the scoring in the 27th minute, followed by a sensational top corner strike from outside the box by new signing Jess Park just before halftime.

United will face German champions Bayern Munich in the next stage of the tournament, likely to take place in late March.

The match marks the eighth consecutive win for the Red Devils, as well as their twelve match unbeaten - their last defeat coming in December 2025 against Olympique Lyonnes.

Seventeen-year-old Jessica Andersen made her debut for the club during the tie, where she registered two shots on target in the first time she had ever been included in a matchday squad.

Atletico defender Xenia Perez was sent off following a second yellow card in the second half.

The Spanish side have gone without a win in their last three games, where they have scored no goals.

While the score may have been positive for United, their bench reflected the extent of their injury issues, with just six players available for substitution; only four of them outfielders.

Many of the Reds’ usual starters - such as Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland and Fridolina Rolfo - remain sidelined, with uncertainty surrounding when any of them will return to the pitch.

This was the third time Manchester United had beaten Atletico Madrid, with another win coming against them in October 2025, United keeping clean sheets in all three victories.

United have now kept eight clean sheets across their first campaign in the Women’s Champions League.
