Tuxedo question

I plan to get a burgundy velvet dinner jacket for next holiday season. I think I’d only wear it a couple of times each season. Maybe once or twice dressed down to a show or Xmas party, but definitely once dressed up with the usual black tie stuff.

Since I’ll be getting the proper black tie pants/shirt/tie/cufflinks/shoes, I’m thinking maybe I should just go ahead and get a full tuxedo (in case the need arises), and use those same pants on occasion with the dinner jacket?

I wouldn’t share my suit pants with multiple jackets, but since these are only going to be worn a couple of times a year, can I get away with it here? I am stingy with my closet space, especially for something worn so rarely.

TL;DR - Can I get away with one pair of tuxedo pants for a dinner jacket and a tuxedo jacket, or should each have its own dedicated pants?
