Eric Schlosser book: Fast Food Nation: The Dark Side of the All-American Meal: came out 25 years ago
Eric Schlosser's groundbreaking work of investigative journalism that examines the profound impact of the fast-food industry on American society. The book traces the history of the industry from its humble beginnings with pioneers like the McDonald brothers to its explosive growth under corporate visionaries like Ray Kroc. Schlosser argues that fast food's success was not accidental, but a result of specific business practices—standardization, franchising, and a relentless focus on low costs—that revolutionized not just how Americans eat, but the entire structure of the country's economy, landscape, and culture.
Ultimately, Fast Food Nation is a powerful indictment of an industry that prioritized profit and efficiency above all else.
He showed up on a few podcasts after the release of the second edition.
To me this book helped me start my nutrition journey with mindful eating, understanding food and nutrition as the goals. This is the kind of like the book Upton Sinclair wrote in 1906 The Jungle. The book paved the way to our food safety laws signed by then President Theodore Roosevelt.
