Reopen Estate to Sell Car

Location: Colorado - I am the personal representative for my mother who died in October. We just sold a car with a very old title. The title lists my father and mother BUT does not say JTWROS.

DMV told me to fill out an Affidavit for Collection of Personal Property Pursuant to Small Estate Proceeding for my Dad's half of the car and use the Letters Testamentary for my Mom's half. It looks like the form just stays with the Division of Motor Vehicles to allow the transfer of the title. However, the form says that Dad's estate was less than $68,000 (it wasn't) and that no personal representative has been appointed (my mother was).

Dad's estate closed in 2023.

Unless reopening an estate is handled faster than opening probate, it will take four weeks to get the Letters Testamentary in our county. The buyer is NOT happy.

Any way to handle this without signing the Affidavit or reopening my Dad's estate? I do have a call in to the lawyer drawing up the PR Deed for the farm to get his opinion.

Thanks.

PS. I am filling out the forms to reopen Dad's estate and getting ready to file them while waiting on answers.
