Does anyone feel like nobody has any agency? Or is just who I'm surrounding myself with?
So first note... I am a teacher... so I notice this with my high school students. So many students will sort of have an assignment, but if they cannot figure something out or if something goes wrong on their computer, they will just sit there. And basically just stare blankly at the screen until the bell rings. They won't ask for help, they won't try to troubleshoot things. I've heard some teens talk about NPCs, and that is a good description.
Then staff. Again, just my personal observation. I've connected with a few great staff, but... so many staff members are absent all the time and my admin are clearly frustrated with staff just not doing what they are supposed to be doing, and that frustration is creating a cycle with where the admin are unpleasant to be around making more people just... not come to work.
Finally... I am involved with many local art organizations/festivals, and we have had relationships with local Uni's where we have graduate students serve as interns. However, these people... in their twenties (for the record I am also in my 20s), and who could conceivably be professionals... just don't do anything. If you sit with them and say "click that. go there. click that." they will but there is just zero agency.
As someone who is generally ambitious, it is driving me mad that it just seems nobody... has any agency....?
