Record rant.
It's not a secret when I share a collective opinion on why records should exist in the first place?! I completely agree with a few departments which encourage us to draw what we see under microscopes to enhance our histology knowledge HOWEVER, what is the logic asking students to write it in A4 sheets no one sees, telling them to write it again in their record that no one sees. I agree record writing is a great way students can recall and learn better, but where is the line drawn when they just out source writing records by juniors or someone outside. Sometimes students scribble their records in class just to meet the deadline. No studying, no recall, just pure fear for 10 marks. Why does NMC even allow this when global universities around the world discourage this and rather have their students expand their clinical skills. Blunt truth?
Indian med schools still love paperwork culture. Abroad, they care more about can you manage a patient without killing them, not whether your margins are neat.
Not all the time, however record writing just feels like academic cosplay. I wish NMC allowed students more time to appreciate their subjects and time to read better rather than worry about menial clerkship record writing for 10 marks.
anyway, that's my small rant lol not targeted at any department. This won't change however, try to make time for everything and not force your juniors to do it. One day we'll look back at this time and laugh at how much we'd suffer just to make sure our records met deadlines.
hopefully..
