Invisalign treatment in India (₹2.5L) – Orthodontist left, IPR possibly not done, treatment failed. What are my options?
I’m posting this to understand my options and whether I should escalate this to Invisalign or start treatment from scratch.
Background: • Started Invisalign treatment in May 2022 in India. • Total cost: ₹2.5 lakhs. • Planned treatment included 24 aligner sets. • An orthodontist initially handled the case and took scans. • After that, most follow-ups were managed by my regular dentist.
What happened: • I completed all 24 sets. • During the last few sets, I stopped going regularly. • I later moved to another city and then abroad. • I did not use retainers consistently after finishing the aligners (at that time I thought this was my fault).
What I later discovered: • When reviewing my prescription/ClinCheck plan, I noticed that IPR (interproximal reduction – grinding between teeth to create space) was part of the treatment plan. • As far as I know, that IPR was never performed. • A later dental check-up in another city suggested that lack of space may be the reason my teeth never aligned properly. • The orthodontist who started my treatment has since moved to Dubai. • Follow-ups were handled by my general dentist after that.
At the time, I assumed the treatment didn’t fully work because I wasn’t consistent with retainers. But now I’m questioning whether the treatment execution itself was flawed from the beginning.
My concerns: • If IPR was prescribed but not done, wouldn’t that prevent proper tooth movement? • Was it appropriate for the orthodontist to leave mid-treatment and have a general dentist manage the case? • Is this something Invisalign (Align Technology) would review? • Do they provide any support in cases where the treatment may not have been executed as planned? • Or should I just assume this is between me and the clinic and restart treatment with a new orthodontist?
I don’t want to go back to the same dentist. I’m currently in Bangalore and considering consulting a new orthodontist, but before restarting everything, I’d like to know if escalation to Invisalign is worth it.
Has anyone dealt with a similar situation? Did Invisalign help with case transfer, refinements, or compensation?
Looking for advice on next steps.
