I need to know if i am doing the right thing
Me and my partner have been in a relationship for over 3 years now, we have had our fair share of issues throughout the relationship but it was nothing we weren’t able to get past, for example during the first year i had problems with my anger, i would often find myself lashing out at things even though it was stupid, this created problems in our relationship as i wasn’t being a great person at that time, this lead to her parents finding out and since then they have held a grudge against me. This lead to us having to give each other some space so i could spend time on working on myself and allow myself to control these outbursts, we then got back together and our relationship was happy and healthier than ever, this was until her parents started to dislike me again for problems in which didn’t even exist, they were always lying about things, for instance one time they decided to say that they saw me out with another girl and I was supposedly all over this girl (at this point in time i wasn’t even in the city) and over the period of a year and a half they were constantly nagging at things that in their eyes were problems but to us none of it even made sense.
Over these past few months her parents have calmed down with all of that but at this point in time it had already done damage, my girlfriends mental health had already been messed with and she felt burnt out.
A bit of context behind my girlfriend, when we got together she was struggling with mental health badly and i was always there for her and i helped her through it even though when shes struggling she tries to push people away, and back to how she is feeling right now she is doing the same thing again, shes slipping back into her mental health issues and she broke up with me a couple nights ago, she has been trying her best to push me away, and i gave her some space for a bit, last night we had a deep conversation on everything going on.
During this conversation we spoke and i told her:
“regardless of the struggles you are going through ill be here to help you through it all regardless of how long it takes, i will wait as long as it takes till your in the right headspace for a relationship again because in my opinion you are worth that , i will continue to love you and care for you because that is the kind of person i am and if right now isn’t the right time for us to be in a relationship i truly believe that there will be a right time at some point “
After this she then proceeded to say to me:
“im so emotionally unstable its exhausting i always ruin relationships cause of it makes me feel guilty”
To this i spoke to her and i told her:
“I do not hold you accountable for any of this, i do not blame you, i do not hate you, it is not your fault. Like i said i will always be here to support you until a point where your stable again even if it takes years because that is the kind of love i have for you, if we have to put our relationship on hold im ok with that as long as we can help you get better and im not going to let you push me away because you think your mental struggles are going to ruin everything that is not who i am, i am not like the rest of your previous relationships i truly love you and i will stand by you and support you until the day comes that we can be one again “
To this she responded with:
“You truly do have a kind soul and im glad someone actually cares for me”
“Its just hard for me to accept someone actually cares, all my previous relationships just pushed me away treated me like im nothing when i started to struggle”
To this i said:
“Yeah well i am not like them, i will be here to support you 100% for the whole journey back to feeling stable again because i do truly care for you and i love you”
The point behind all this, i know when she struggles she pushes people away , and the way i see it is the conscious mind is going to try pushing people away even though the subconscious mind is there telling you that you want that person there and you need that person .
