External Mic for vx2000

I'm looking for an external microphone I can plug into the vx2000, one that's handheld like musicians use while performing. I was also hoping for it to be around the same era so the quality isn't overly crisp. Can I just plug any 3.5mm mic into the vx2000? or what would be a good option?
