S4E7 hot (?) take
!! Season 4 spoilers ahead obviously
Alright, so, i was rewatching Season 4 today and when i got to Episode 7 i was obviously really excited. I loved this episode on first watch and i never really doubted its brilliance, especially since pretty much everyone seems to absolutely love it too.
Almost the entire episode i was REALLY invested, and loved how every storyline played out. This feeling peaked right before the grand reveal because, i can't lie, One being Henry Creel AND Vecna all at the same time is a crazy twist, and the best thing is it DOES actually make a ton of sense narratively.
But when the actual reveal happened... it felt kind of underwhelming to me. The way One just kinda decided to kill everyone at the lab and share his grand backstory with an 8 year old child AND Nancy through a flashback came accross as, well... kind of corny to me? One was a really interesting character to me up until this very point, and then he just turned into this supervillain edgelord with a really cheesy "the world is so cruel..." motive, all while this epic and mysterious music keeps building up. It almost felt like i was watching Wednesday or something, and unfortunately i don't mean that as a compliment.
It's worth pointing out that i don't think the twist itself is bad. Again, it makes a lot of sense narratively and is honestly not that predictable at all, so the tense music and tone were probably fitting and whatnot. I just REALLY wish this was implemented better and with more "awareness" for what it is, i guess.
Maybe my expectations were just too high here, but yeah, that's my take on this. Curious if anybody felt at least somewhat the same?
