Movie question

So is the original Matt dead? As in the Matt we’ve been following for the past 17 years? Jay went back in time to before they made the jump but that’s an alternate timeline where he’s still alive.

I know it’s just a movie and it’s all for fun but if that sacrifice is real where Matt wants Jay to live in a life knowing he’s successful and happy without him, it’s actually quite beautiful.
