Looking for resin printing advice - keying/socketing multipart prints
I'm prepping a model for print, but need to split it into parts. Up until now, I've always printed in a single piece, but to print this figure at the correct scale, I need to print the legs and humanoid section separately to the main spider body/carapace.
I've got the parts separated correctly but am looking to set up keys. Basically I'm wondering about the best approach for creating the "peg and hole" connections between pieces - programs, things to keep in mind, what makes a good joint, etc.
I've seen people discuss live booleans in Zbrush, winging it/doing it by eye, and even using booleans in-slicer to create the connections. I'm going to pose this character, so keyed joints seem to make sense to maintain the correct orientations per leg. Having the sockets built into the design (spider legs), means it should be easy to hide the joints... right? Any tips or tricks?
And yep, I'll be thickening the spindly leg sections where necessary: It's a realtime game character first and foremost.
Mainly looking to learn a bit about others experiences setting up keying/pegs etc and how best to approach this - I know a little bit about needing adequate tolerance and load bearing angles for pegs etc., but there's plenty more to learn. Thanks in advance :)
