BHA: No noticeable effect on skin or skin concerns (comedones)

Been using BHA (salicylic acid 2%, liquid formula, directly applied on skin) for over year now and did not notice any improvement/changes/effects (positive or negative) on my skin. I have oily skin and have white heads which the salicylic acid was for.

Anybody had the same experience? What did you do (as a simple minimal routine) that worked well with white heads? Thanks
