AT Arkveld Impressions
So ive done AT Arkveld a fair bit, had some carts here and there and got more than enough tickets to make his gear for my hunter and palico, all of it done solo.
Honestly…not really a fan of it. I like being able to actively engage with the fight rather than playing tag with a creature that has a coke problem. Tempered Gore was my old nemesis but I can fight him pretty comfortable, with my only complaint being the amount of health he has (and the tightness of the areas, but that’s an environmental issue and not something strictly to him. The fight was more annoying to me than anything and while I would normally be mad, truth be told I think I’m more or less numb. I feel this is for 2 reasons: due to predicting that Capcom would overcorrect on the difficulty with a myriad of AOES and blinding speed and this being what a majority of people wanted, making me the minority. The only other monsters I can kind of think of that I didn’t quite enjoy even after learning him was Risen Shagaru from Sunbreak due to the myriad of explosions.
What’s weird is, fighting creatures like Scorned Maggy and PriMAL I actually found enjoyable, mostly due to the speed being able to somewhat keep pace with them and an open environment to fight in. A lot of people are championing AT Ark as the pinnacle of MH combat but I think after the challenge quest I won’t be engaging with the fight anymore unless it’s with friends or absolutely necessary. As of writing this ive done AT Ark 19 times just to see if theres that “spark” im missing but I don’t really see it. I did the other AT quests and aside from maybe one or two annoying elements (Rey’s downward shot hitbox, Uth’s hitboxes, and Jin’s tigrex cosplay) I found those fights to be fun and would regularly do them to try out a different build or weapon.
I don’t know if im burnt out on AT Ark or what, but I don’t like fighting him. Its not an issue IF I can beat him, the issue is: is the process enjoyable? Which I have to say no. Maybe my opinion will change in the future but for now, he’s a nope for me.
