Snyder’s Justice League is truly a wild ride, with ambitions as big as Morrison’s legendary JLA run. And while Morrison’s JLA is still my undefeated number one when it comes to Justice League stories, I definitely respect Snyder’s ambition.

I mean, this is undeniably a great and fun read. Sometimes a bit too much, all over the place, and essentially a bridge between Metal and Death Metal, but I had an absolute blast with it.

The theme of Doom vs. Justice runs throughout the entire run, and in this second volume we follow Lex Luthor as he becomes the Apex Predator in the service of the goddess Perpetua, the being responsible for the creation of the Multiverse. They are the ones trying to stir humanity’s lowest and most selfish instincts and bring the entire Multiverse under the rule of Doom.

I won’t spoil the ending here, go read it for yourselves, but I definitely have to mention the time travel (into both the future and the past), the multiversal hopping, and the downright insane super-cosmic ideas. That’s exactly my kind of thing, and I’m really glad Snyder delivered it this way. Plus, I can’t not mention Jarro, the best Robin of all time!

I’m also very happy that the omnibus includes The Batman Who Laughs miniseries. At first glance it might not seem like it fits the overall concept, but later it makes perfect sense and it’s one of Snyder’s best works ever, so it absolutely belongs here. To close things out, we also get Tynion’s Hell Arisen miniseries, which was a very pleasant surprise for me. I enjoyed it far more than I expected, and it perfectly bridges the end of Snyder’s Justice League run with Death Metal. Thanks to this miniseries, things that previously didn’t fully make sense finally start to click.

So if you love bold, insane, and ambitious adventures across time and dimensions, with a philosophical edge and reflections on the nature of humanity, this run despite its minor flaws is made just for you
