What does it mean if I feel desensitized?
I experienced some abuse and violence in the past, and then moved to a more peaceful country and had flashbacks and things like that.
A few months ago I returned to my homecountry for a visit, and in just a few weeks some of the same abusers tried to abuse me, and someone assaulted me on the street. I called the authorities to make it clean it was mostly on camera, and they started a criminal case against me, claiming that punching back after 2 or 3 dodged punches and being spat in the face is public disturbance on my behalf.
I am somewhat involved with legislative human rights advocate groups in the country (even was part of the organizors of a pro-freedom protest before) and I knew already the legal definition of what they claimed and that they have no reasonable suspicion to claim that I committed that crime. The police officer shouted at me that he doesn't care about the situation because there is no doubt I committed it, and that it would have been better for me to not call them. He asked "Are you on drugs or something?" for being calm and composed when talking with him. His collague overheard our conversation and said I am such a smartass that no wonder someone just assaulted me on the street, and he is surpised that they did not assault me more, and that I can be happy he is not the one doing my case.
It happened a few months ago and I had some insomnia for a while. Now I saw some combat footages from Ukrainian war, and I feel kind of desensitized.
Is it the closing off of emotions due to not yet being safe enough to process? What do you guys think?
