disputing a rent increase?

Hi there,

I’ve recently received another rent increase for my apartment. I have lived here for 6 years and we have received rent increases nearly every year that we’ve been here. My building was sold to a new owner last year and on the listing I found a document with the rent prices and the last increases of every other unit in my building. We are paying the second highest rent and there are numerous tenants who have moved in after we have for identical (if not nicer) suites. And a lot of the tenants have not been getting rent increases and we have. There are a lot of places available right now at very similar prices as what we are paying and we are considering moving but thinking about trying to dispute this increase or potentially even negotiate a decrease. I have had a lot of friends successfully negotiate rent decreases lately. But my husband is worried about ruffling feathers and being evicted but I want to try!

Does anyone have any advice on the best way to approach this?
