The Friday Post from Vienna. Today: Why do we see so few reports on DIY service/repair of photographic equipment here in the community?

Community

I have come up with a new format for our community to promote DIY:

The Friday Post from Vienna πŸ™‚

Every Friday will be devoted to public relations work for DIY service/repair for photographic equipment.

The aim is to promote DIY in order to contribute to the future of our photographic equipment.

I hope you like it, or even better: that it motivates you to do your own DIY projects.

As the weekend approaches

I find myself once again wondering why we see so few reports on DIY service/repair of photographic equipment here in the community.

Not just here, but also in other forums, as far as they are public.

Yes, I will continue to bother you with this topic in 2026 because it is important for the future of our SLRs, lenses, and accessories πŸ€—

Without project reports knowledge is not passed on,

and then the only option is to struggle through as a lone DIY warrior.

I still don't understand what the reason for this is.

It can't be a lack of interest, judging by the number of hits on my own reports. And there is always positive feedback.

It's also not that there is a lack of technical instructions, as we have already established several times. The level of documentation is excellent, especially for SLRs up to the 1990s.

Is it a lack of time?

Despite all the publicity at least I try to give it, is the topic still too dry, too complicated, or too intimidating?

Or is there a lack of confidence in one's own DIY abilities?

Or is DIY much more widespread than assumed, and there is simply a lack of reports about people's own work?

Please let me know.

I will only stop promoting DIY until there is at least one report here every week. Or at least every two weeks πŸ˜‰

Enjoy your weekend and greetings from Vienna,

Andreas
