The reason people suffering with ARFID often don’t eat vegetables or fruit

I know the issue is more complicated than this. More often than not there are multiple factors at play but I think this might be one of the main reasons why is it like that. Hear me out.

Most of the fruit and veg you can buy in supermarkets or smaller shops is just trash. Cheap, tasteless, industrially produced with cheapest costs as quick as possible. Plant breeding for yield is prioritised over nutrition. They are less nutritious than they used to be 50-70 years ago and that’s a fact according to multiple scientific studies. Less minerals, sugars and acids means less taste and more blandness. They’re also harvested before full ripeness so the food doesn’t have enough time to develop full flavour and aroma compounds.

We’re all basically scammed into believing the food we’re buying isn’t just the ghost of their former selves. Fibrous, watery trash where nutrients are diluted and flavours barely there. No wonder some people rather just go hungry or starve than eat that? Idk how about you but it makes my blood absolutely boil!!

Somehow fresh, seasonal produce, heirloom or less common varieties and organic fruit and veg tastes better. Not always but most of the time it does. But who has money for that? Or energy? Or fancy experimenting with food the grew up to believe they don’t like or can’t even stand? I just feel so defeated when every meal is already a struggle and lottery where idk if my veggies going to taste like cardboard, styrofoam, sawdust or proper veggies as they should this time 🫠

What are your thoughts on that? I’d love to hear your opinions and experiences.
