Tips to save money on groceries
I’m posting here simply bc some of the other frugal subs are too extreme for me lol. I’d like realistic tips lol.
Our grocery bill is out of control. I know everyone is feeling it but I see other moms say how much they spend on groceries and I’m floored. We spend around 1,200/month for two adults one toddler. That includes virtually all household essentials other than diapers. We buy mostly organic which does drive up the cost. I’ve tried Aldi, but my issue is the only thing I really can get there is the meat. I don’t find the produce good quality, and the other stuff is mostly prepackaged stuff that we don’t eat bc we try to eat “clean.” Half the time I’d go there and they would be out of what I came for so I stopped going altogether. We do most shopping at Meijer. We tried Costco a few years ago when we were first married but my husband didn’t think it saved us money. It was before we were serious about our budget. I meal plan every week, and for the most part stick to the list, rarely get “extras.” I make my own bone broth, bread, granola bars, amongst other things. We eat out maybe twice a month, never do takeout unless we’ve been traveling.
When I lookup budget meal plans follow budgeting influencers, etc I get frustrated bc the solution usually is to cut down portions. My husband is 6’2 and works outside so he usually has a large appetite. Most recipes I double the protein to fill him up and ensure he has enough leftovers for lunch the next day. I don’t want to starve my family in the name of saving money but that seems like the only solution right now lol.
