Better gas mileage in sport mode

I live in Chicago and have been driving my 2024 IS350 F sport in normal most of the winter. Been averaging around 19-20 mpg with a mix of city and highway driving. The last few times out I've switched it to sport mode and am getting around 22mpg now.

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this? Always assumed normal or eco would improve gas mileage.
