Please assist me! Apologies if this has been discussed before. I don’t come here often and simply need some educated assistance. I worked in Midtown Manhattan (20? Years ago) at a famous Comic Shop. We often had visitors from the “Big Two” companies who would trade the books they got for free at work (mostly next month’s releases) in exchange for cash or store credit. Some of these guys had accounts with well over $10k in credit. It was a well known Secret at our store. So long as we didn’t release anything early, the gravy train kept rolling. So here’s what I need assistance with: one month we had several guys come in saying that DV8 issue #27 was going to be recalled and we could NOT release the copies we had. Apparently there was a subplot about a school shooter and just prior to the issue dropping, that very situation occurred somewhere in the U.S. Wildstorm decided to reprint the issue and asked staff to destroy any copies they had hence why the came to us to Mae sure we shred them. A very cool manager who ran that entire trade operation was kind enough to pull one copy each for the 3 or 4 of us lowly employees who happened to be privy to the information. I got one and was able to liberate an additional 2-3 copies for myself as well. I totally forgot about it and never even bothered to check out the reissued versions. Anyhoo… years ago I tried to look it up and found zero mention of it.
I know for a fact at least ten copies survived from our end and who knows how many were stashed by employees at WS yet it’s never come up.
It’s just the 2 speech bubbles that were eventually changed but it was enough that they destroyed most of the initial print run.
Anyone know this story? What’s it worth?
