Curious of peoples Mid-30s experiences in Vancouver

Advice πŸ™‹β€β™‚οΈπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

I'm 35 years old and single. I have a decent Monday-Friday job. I'm a curious person, and I love reading and learning about the world. I think I'm a normal person, but I just feel so empty. My life is very routine, trying to spend money in a wise enough way to survive in this expensive city. My social life has disappeared. I had a very active social life when I was a bit younger, but now I spend most of my time alone. I don't relate very well to the younger people at work; they're in a different stage of their lives, and many people around my age are married or having kids. I tried the dating apps a bit, but haven't had much luck. I'm not on social media anymore because it was making me feel bad, and it's so easy to waste time on the phone. Honestly, it's a bit sad to go on the bus or out in public and see everyone glued to their phones. The "lonely in a crowded room" feeling is definitely real. I'm trying to find a new hobby to get out more and get into more social environments. I'm proud that I can go out and do things alone, but the feelings of loneliness get overwhelming sometimes. I know this is common in Vancouver, and I just wanna see how others deal with it.

Side note - has Vancouver gotten ruder? customer service and basic decency towards each other seem to have gone out the window. Let's be nicer to each other.
