DO WE HAVE TO WRITE STEPS FOR MCQ? (SENIORS HELP PLEASE)

Well my teacher said many times not to write but I am thinking that why tf would they give 2 marks just for writing answers. Like I was in ICSE in class 10th and for us they told to write steps even for 1 marks mcq so why not here? Can seniors confirm this please?
