Personal & controversial Post: Troublesome Situation with Gen Z re: Black History
This sub is called Black History Chats for a reason! This sub is supposed to feel like a college dorm, the hair salon, or barbershop where you talk about Black History. Remember the classic scenes from the film Barbershop?
We are all learning new things and we are sitting around talking with our peers. We are 'chatting' about what we learned and what we need to unlearn. We are talking about our confusions on certain parts of Black History.

This is a semi-personal post.
I went to visit my cousin last weekend. I spoke to his daughter who is a 20 year-old college student. She told me many of her peers (Black and non-Black) don't understand the point of Black History.
They think everyone is 'too woke' and there is no need to learn Black History. They don't feel the significance of any of it.
**I asked her....**where did they get this from...
She said: social media.
She said everyone she knows looks at Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, and Tik Tok and they are told what to think and feel and they really believe in everything they see. They aren't listening to their elders who are all around them who teach them THE TRUTH. Instead, they are 'learning' from 25 year-olds via social media who don't care about Black History and don't think you should either.
She admitted it bothered her and she wanted to speak out on it more. Yet, she is also very shy so I know she isn't the type to do that even if she wants to. It just made me sad and angry that this is what Gen Z thinks of us 'older people'. It makes me sad they have a total disconnect to why Black History matters.
It is also brought me back to the reason I started this sub in the first place. I noticed some of the same things on social media too. It's Gen Z that are the main ones tying to suppress Black History - but why would they do that?! Who is telling them to do that?! Where is this coming from?! Think about that. Think about who actually owns most of these social media sites and how they specifically target and brainwash young people. I'm doing my part with this sub which is all I can do for now.
