Gaming…
My husband and I (29yo) have been married for 2 years, together 5. Early in dating I expressed that my previous long term relationship was emotionally abusive and involved heavy video game use. He understood and expressed it is a hobby for him. Early in dating, he prioritized me and it wasn’t an issue. In the thick of it (2-3 years of dating) he ended up selling his PS4 and blames in on my nagging. Well, I don’t think I nagged but it did get a little heavy (every night, late night, playing all day on off days). I just expressed it was bothering me. Well for 2 years he didn’t have a system and it would play on his phone. I knew he enjoyed gaming but did interfere (I would be talking to him and he would ignore me, neglecting household responsibilities to play games, sitting in the car after work to play games on his phone). Well, for Christmas (recent) I got him a backbone so he can play actual games on his phone and scratch that itch so he might not play it so much. Wrong. He’s on it all the time. He doesn’t come to bed anymore because he will stay in the living room “where the service is better”. He’s angry every time I call him and it’s interrupting his game. We looked at his screen time and he was playing 40 hours a week on his game… AND working a 40 hour job!! He’s losing sleep. He doesn’t care. He’s tired every day. It’s like a pacifier. He carries it everywhere. Every time I want to talk about it, he seems irritated and gets defensive. Gaming isn’t the issue, I WANT him to game and find an outlet on hard days… but he cannot manage it himself. He tells me I need more hobbies and maybe that’s why I’m lonely. LOL I have to laugh… I love to read. But I steward my home and my family (him and the dogs) before my hobbies. Help?
Tl;dr
My husband is gaming so much that it’s emotionally wrecking our marriage and it seems like he doesn’t care. How do I fix this?
