Cheap campervan for a few weeks of summer remote work (15k€ budget) advice/recommendations
Hi everyone,
I’m thinking about getting a cheap mini camper setup for a few weeks of summer remotework Budget is around 15k€ I don’t have a workshop and I can’t do big DIY builds.
Goal: keep it very simple, reliable enough for a few weeks, and not end up in endless repairs.
Current idea:
- Buy a 10-15-year-old van e.g. VW T5 / Opel Vivaro / Renault Trafic
- Add a camping box or similar for a basic bed
- Use a portable power station (for laptop/phone, PC, monitor, cooling box, maybe starlink.. )
- Mostly stay on campsites and run a long hook-up cable through the window for 230V
Questions:
- Is the simple setup approach reasonable, or are there any practical issues I’m missing? Recommendations? Any tips? For summer remote work, what upgrades are must have? (Ventilation? shades? proper hook-up inlet? internet backup?)
- Any buying tips for 15-year-old vans in this category? I want to use it as a daily car - even in offseason.
- Alternative: Should I rather take a small loan and buy a ready camper for 25–35k€?
Thanks for any experience / recommendations!
