Gets stuck on "connecting" when between access points

As the title says, when my phone goes between access points on one named network the VPN gets stuck on connecting. Been going back and forth with support but they just give me generic troubleshooting that doesn't do anything and I keep getting new people who keep going in circles. Anyone ever experience this and figure out how to fix it? Happens on my mom's home network which has a router and extender under one name, my work network which has multiple access points throughout the building, at various hotels, and on occasion on my cell service if it's spotty
