Ryoma Kaida, a third-year student at Tokyo’s Adachi Shinden High School joining Kasugano stable, held a press conference at his school on the 16th. Expressing his ambitions, he stated, "I want to reach the Sekitori ranks in about three years and become a Yokozuna in the future." With achievements such as placing second in the boy's individual division at last year’s National Sports Festival, he is scheduled to debut at the Sandanme 100 designated rank at the Osaka Basho.

A native of Katsushika Ward, Tokyo, Kaida possesses an imposing physique at 191cm and 155kg. His strengths lie in tsuki-oshi and migi-yotsu. Despite receiving offers from universities, he decided to turn professional, saying, "I wanted to enter professional sumo as soon as possible."

His father is a former rikishi of Kasugano stable and served as a tsukebito to the current stablemaster, Kasugano-oyakata (former Sekiwake Tochinowaka), during his active days. The stablemaster expressed high expectations, noting, "With a physique like this, anyone would want to recruit him. He has a promising future, and I want to develop him carefully."

The physical competency test for new disciples of the Osaka Basho was held on the 16th at Ryogoku Kokugikan. Two applicants—18-year-old Hinata Nojima (Nishonoseki stable) and 15-year-old Ryuta Yoshino (Sadogatake stable)—took the exam and both passed. Following the formal new disciple physical and internal medical exams on the 28th, their official acceptance will be announced on the first day of the tournament.

This test targets applicants who do not meet the standard physical requirements (167cm/67kg, or 165cm/65kg for middle school graduates) and are not experienced wrestlers aged 23–25 with specific credentials. It consists of seven events, including ball throwing, a 50-meter dash, standing broad jump, and sit-ups. Both Nojima and Yoshino cleared the required scores.

Nojima, standing 163.2cm and weighing 97.6kg, showed agility with a 7.8-second 50-meter dash. He began sumo after being invited by his Nakatsu Higashi High School classmate Shosei Tanaka (who joined Nakamura stable) and placed third in the open-weight division of last year’s Kyushu tournament. He joined Nishonoseki stable at the invitation of his senior, Makushita-ranked Rakanji. Having already begun life at the stable, he said he is overwhelmed by the intensity and aura of Yokozuna Onosato. "I want to wrestle like Fujinokawa, moving forward. Even though I'm small, I want to get inside and keep pushing. I hope to reach Makushita in four years," he said.

Yoshino, who measured 160.5cm and 81.8kg, started sumo in the second grade. Despite reaching the Top 8 in the Tokai Junior High School Championships, he received no offers from powerhouse high schools like Hiryu High. Embracing an underdog spirit, he said, "I want to enter the professional world before my peers and show them what I’m made of." With sparkling eyes, he added, "I want to emulate technically skilled wrestlers like Ura, Aonishiki, and Midorifuji."
