How Long Has Whitney Been Controlled By the Russians?

Last episode established that - while Whitney himself is not a Russian agent, is controlled by the Russians - with Ferdinand being the FSB agent who is more or less Whitney's handler.

I am curious when people think the Russians first made Whitney a Russian asset, and/or how long they have been running Tender?

Has Tender ALWAYS been controlled by the Russians, or is this something that happened within the last few years? I am unsure if the show has told us yet, but I think it has to have been a relatively recent development. If Jonah and Whitney created Tender together, I do think Jonah would have seen the Russian influence if it has been there from the very beginning.

Additionally, do people think that Whitney (because of his Lithuanian passport) is actually Lithuanian, or is this a fake passport if he needs to flee?

While Whitney does seem to lie about his background (Henry called his BS about his mom's attempted suicide) I do think it at least within the realm of possibility that Whitney is Lithuanian.

Whitney 100% did attend Stanford (that would be impossible to lie about), but who is to say that Whitney was not born in Lithuania, and immigrated to the US as a child?

I am just very confused by Whitney's timeline with the FSB, and unsure if the show already explained this or not.
