Women with Formal Authority are the dangerous ones, but Men with Informal Authority are the dangerous ones.

There is a subset of “kinda dumb women with high levels of formal authority” that is genuinely dangerous. The diabolical teacher is very well understood, the diabolical nurse is very well understood (w/in a practice context) people who deal with children’s well being all know the one or two genuinely bad apples in child protective services, it’s well understood a female cop will ticket what a male cop often would let slide, etc. But females with informal authority don’t have that bad rap. As an example, you might expect The Town Piano Teacher to be not that different from The Town Middle School Music Teacher, but they very seldom are.

Meanwhile, men with lots of formal authority pale in comparison to the evil of men with informal authority. The Harvey Weinstein and P Diddy and Epstein types simply have no parallel in judges, career military officers, etc.

What’s going on here?
