[M4F] Looking for a partner to do a sci-fi adventure and romance story
Hello to all of you lovely people out there!
I’m looking for a long-term RP partner for a sci-fi story very loosely inspired by the concept of the Starborn from Starfield. This is not fandom-bound and won’t follow canon. I'm just borrowing the broad idea of cyclical rebirth and power gain from "space magic things."
What I’m hoping for in terms of tone and style:
Lots of adventuring across planets, some strong action sequences, and high-stakes confrontations. But this will be balanced with an emphasis on slice-of-life romance. I love quiet character moments just as much as big cosmic conflicts. Obviously there will be some spice but I definitely want it to be in the interest of the story.
The Setting:
It's a sci-fi version of our Sol System. Interplanetary travel is common but still meaningful as ships are advanced and capable of moving relatively quickly between planets (think about an hour or two to travel from Mercury to Venus), but they’re expensive enough that not everyone owns one. There are huge wealth disparities: moving around on a single planet is generally accessible, but hopping between planets is a much bigger financial burden. Every planet, including the dwarf planets, has been colonized or is inhabited in some fashion. I’d like to keep it contained to a single system rather than expanding into a full galaxy.
My Character:
He is a Starborn which is someone who has entered something called the “Singularity" and gain abilities. Every time a Starborn enters though, there is a reset in time back to when the search for the singularity began. Over countless resets, he has accumulated power to the point of being nearly godlike. Sometimes he lives only a year before resetting and sometimes he stays for centuries. He’s locked in a constant struggle with other Starborn who ultimately want to reshape the universe in their own image. Since his first entry into the Singularity, he’s always managed to stay ahead of them but it’s never stable. The strain, the cost, or a miscalculation usually pushes him toward another reset.
Usually before each reset, he hides or plants certain items across the system so he can find them again in the next cycle.
In his very first life before the first time he entered, he met your character. You were studying the Singularity which is what led him to it. You both fell in love and became soulmates and he sought you out after every reset. But over time, the other Starborn learned about you and have used you against him more than once. In more recent resets, he’s tried to stay far away from you to protect you, even when it means never seeing you again.
Now he’s reached a breaking point. Instead of resetting again, he’s decided he’s going to destroy the Singularity itself to end the cycle permanently.
Your Character:
She's a scientist studying the Singularity in some capacity. The specifics are entirely up to you: physicist, xenotechnologist, philosopher of cosmology, corporate researcher, rogue academic, etc. Your backstory is yours to shape, including how you’ve ended up where our story begins.
The Story:
It opens in a bar on Mars. My character is there because the first step toward reaching the Singularity always begins there, in that same city, in every cycle. He’s come to think, to plan and to make peace with the decision not to seek you out this time. He’s finally resolved to let you live a normal life, safe from him and the chaos that follows him forever.
And then the door opens. You walk in and you are there specifically looking for him.
Opening:
The line to enter the planet side port was intolerable. He pushed the thrusters into idle and waited as five smaller frigates in front of him seemed eager to play chicken with each other about who should enter first. He didn't have the patience to wait for these fools to get through customs but he also didn't have the energy to deal with any arguments. Somehow, being ultimately immortal didn't open some higher power of calm and collective. Just cranky, impatient, and tired.
When it was finally his turn he turned off the idle and inched the throttle for the Gigahorse's thrusters forward. She was a big ship, roughly 96 meters long but the sheer size of the main engines, amount of thrusters, and modifications he had done made her fly like a ship half her size. This was his home and he always found her again, first thing, after each reset. Besides speed an maneuverability she has a medical bay, more guns than a ship that size warranted, and armor and shielding that would make most corvette ships jealous. When you've lived a thousand lives you eventually learn where to get materials and how to apply them.
Once he was landed in the large hanger, he did a quick check and lock down of the ship before heading out the main doors of the hanger and down the same hallway he had traveled so many times before. The path to the Singularity always started here in this bar on Mars. The Dust Bowl was on the top floor of the port overlooking the edge of the Valles Marineris and offered one of the best views in the system. But that wasn't why the processes always started here. It always started here because of Thomas Lindel; a local treasure hunter. He always came babbling about a weird cave with a weird gravity signature that he explored only to find a strange piece of metal that made his hair stand on end when he got close to it.
On the first reset he had gone straight to the cave but the metal piece wasn't there. That was when he learned that not everything seemed to stay the same from loop to loop. So, he began each trip with a trip to the Dust Bowl to learn about which cave Thomas Lindel had stumbled into this time and then make his way there himself. Tom was late this time which meant the cave must have been especially far off. As he sat there drink in his hand but not really drinking he began to think of her again.
He always thought of her. The moment he first met her he had been mesmerized by her smile. This time was going to be different and it was time he needed to learn she was better off without him in her life. He needed to end all of it; stop the other Starborn, destroy the singularity, no more resets. Then he'd take the Gigahorse and fly to the farthest place he could think of and just exist in a world that was far away from her. So she could live the life she deserved to have. The one full of everything she wanted. No more getting caught between near gods fighting over who's ego was bigger.
The bar door slid open with the usual sound of slight atmospheric adjustments for pressure. He turned around ready to follow Tom to the same corner he always went to (that at least didn't change) but it wasn't Tom. He found, instead, eyes that he would never mistake for anyone else. Eyes that held all of his love in them. It was her. But it shouldn't be her. She should be back on Earth, in New York, giving a talk at NYU. She shouldn't even know he exist yet. Why the hell was she here and looking right at him?

I’m 39, bust just want you to be thoughtful, communicative, and mature in how you write and collaborate. I do work nights about 2–3 times a week, so my schedule can occasionally be a little wonky. But, I’m always excited to see that notification pop up and jump back into the story when I can. Also, I live in US-Central time zone so ideally someone else from the US would be best but I'm willing to figure things out for the right partner! I write in a literate style and enjoy building scenes, atmosphere, and emotional progression together rather than rushing things. I absolutely follow my partner's style and length when responding and I'm good to adjust these as needed per scene.
If this sounds interesting, reach with your character concept or a follow up to my beginning. Let’s build something epic and beautiful.
