What's it like to be a market researcher?
Hello everyone! I'm currently enrolled in a MA program in advertising, with my undergrad background being related to communications and writing. I chose this field because I like communication and strategy, and I'm also quite creative as a person. While I'd like to develop cmpaigns, or strategies for a brand in- house or an agency, I've found that I'm most drawn to anything relating to consumer insights, market/environment, competition. I like knowing why something is the way it is, and what it means, how we can approach or change it. I like gaining insight about how people perceive a brand/product/category, what drives them, what the brand can do (regarding its communications and advertising, for example) to become better. Since January, I've started to attend a class about research and I'm fascinated by it. The professor has mentioned market research as a potential career path for us students, and presented it as a type of position tht's high in demand and pays well. I like the idea of it, I like the idea of gathering and interprating data, and offer solutions or make suggestions based on them. However, a lot of things sound interesting in theory but differ in practice. I wonder about the day-to-day of a market researcher. Also, I'm wondering about the level of math needed, as it isn't my strong suit. In this class we haven't yet dealth with the Quant. part of the research.
So how can one get a career in market research, what is needed? And what can someone expect for their day to look like when working in market research? Plus, would you say it's a good choice for people who are a bit more introverted side? Is it a stressful job? Thank you!
