How does paying for charging work?

New(ish) owner here. I bought into the family last November and have a tier 2 charger at home. I have never used a public charger but have set up the ford app with a cc for their “plug & charge”. My question is how do I know what and how to pay when I go to a public charger that isn’t immediately taken care of through the Ford app?
